The G.R.E.A.T. Adventure

[ G od's love R eaching, E xciting, A ssuring, & T ransforming . . . the lives of kids! ]

The G.R.E.A.T Adventure is our Children's Ministry program for Pre-school-Kindergarten through 5th graders. It is offered from 9:15-10:15 on Sunday mornings from September through May. The Great Adventure is based on the workshop rotation model which recognizes that children learn in different ways ~ visually, verbally, physically, musically, artistically, and others. Therefore, teaching through a variety of interactive, "hands-on" methods is key to learning and retention, not to mention it's fun for everyone! We're in our second year, and we're pleased to see the spiritual growth and transformation of both the children and adults involved.

Throughout the year, we focus on a different Bible story each month. Rotations for this year are:

December, 2007 :
John the Baptist "The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.' " - Matthew 3:3b
December 16, 2007:
Sunday School Christmas Program - "The Mysterious Christmas Card" will be presented at the 10:30AM Service
January, 2008:
Jesus' Baptism & Temptation - "Look! The Lamb of God! He takes away the sin of the world!" - John 1:29
February, 2008:
Mary & Martha - "Be still and know that I am God." - Psalm 46:10
March, 2008:
The Resurrection - The empty tomb
April, 2008:
Paul - Saul's Conversion - God changes people. "Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new." II Corinthians 5:17
May, 2008:
Zacchaeus - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths." Proverbs
How The Great Adventure Works: In the Great Adventure, children are placed into small groups based on age and grade. The groups are as follows:

Pre-School - Seeker’s

Kindergarten - Tracker’s

1 st Grader  - Searcher’s

2 nd Grader - Scout’s

3 rd Grader - Hunter’s

4 th Grader - Explorer’s

5 th Grader - Investigator’s

Each Sunday morning, all of the groups participate in "Sunday Morning Live", an opening program of music, Bible verse memory, and mission informationa nd object lesson from Pastor Heimsoth. Afterwards, "the Adventure Guides' [anytime you learn about Jesus you are on an adventure] lead their groups to a specific workshop, where the workshop leader teaches the lesson to the children who participate in related activities. These workshops are:
  • Action & Adventure Activities - Activities like Bibleland, Jeopardy, to name a couple, that test the children's understanding of biblical facts and concepts in a fun, active way.
  • Bibletime Theatre & Praising Puppets - Through costumes, props or puppets, the GREAT Adventure children will have the opportunity to act out stories of the Bible, become the people they are learning about, or learn biblical stories from our own puppeteers.
  • Creation Station - The children will use a variety of mediums to create special projects that enhance their understanding of the current story.
  • His Hands - Special Mission Sundays where children use "Their Hands" to be a part of "His [God's] Hands" in helping others in our community, world, or congregation.
  • Kid's Kafe - Food and kids are always a winning combination. Here food activities are used to teach and relate the Bible Story.
  • Kingdom.com - In today's world, computers are a great tool to let the Bible come alive through animated stories and activity programs. The children use interactive programs to help them learn about our Lord's Kingdom.
  • S.P. Cinema - GREAT Adventure children watch videos and discuss how the stories and characters areportrayed; and compare the accuracies of the video to the Bible.
Stop by and join us Sunday morning. Guests and new friends are always welcome in The Great Adventure.
