Surrender
It's the place where you hunger, and your deepest thirst
Is to know the creator of this universe
And where you think of the price God paid for your sin
And everything is worthless by comparison.
Somehow it all begins, at the place of surrender.
John wanted to make his wife's birthday the most special ever. He planned it for months. The beauty of his effort was the fact that surprising his wife was so out of character for him. Who knows what inspired him to such a task. He just knew he wanted her to know she was the most special woman in the whole world. So he planned and planned, and when the day arrived he woke up with eager anticipation:
"Happy Birthday, honey! Do you trust me?"

With that he told her she needed to be showered and ready to go in one hour. When she asked where they were going he said,"Trust me." She actually got a little upset when he refused to tell her his plans. He took her out to breakfast at a little inn where they had a room all to themselves. A corsage was waiting on the table for her. After that they stopped at her favorite clothes shop where he had an outfit picked out. She just needed to pick out the accessories. She asked what such an elegant outfit was for. He refused to tell her. She started to protest, but he did not budge. As the day went on, with a walk in the park and a lunch for her and two old school friends whom he had flown in, she relaxed and let him lead her through the mnost wonderful birthday she had ever experienced.

Because we often view "surrender" in a negative sense, people miss the beauty of what it means to be a Christian. Faith in God is not a choice we make in which we include God in our routine of life. It is a gift from God. Neither is the Christian life like a buffet where we pick anc choose what we like. Rather, being a Christian is to have the Lord of all creation take us out and surprise us with a life we could never dream of or make happen on our own. The question is this, "Do you trust God?"

We go through life and want to make our own choices. We want to chart our own course. We want to be in control. But none of us is in control. You think people choose cancer or divorce or bankruptchy? Wouldn't it be nice if there was someone you could trust who was in total control and could take care of everything in your life? Wouldn't it be nice to sit back and let someone else determine the right path for your life? There is!
His name is Jesus. Do you trust him? He wants to make your life more special than you can imagine. You just have to surrender control and give it it him. We at St. Peter are working to help you realize the joy of surrendering your life to him---then experiencing life as never before.
Blessings in the journey,
Pastor Heimsoth
Whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. (Jesus)
